The Big Ow

Recently my mother-in-law was admitted into the hospital because of a serious infection. My 2 yr old son is very attached to his Grandma and Grandpa, he sees them everyday when mommy and daddy are at work. When Grandma had to go to the hospital my son figured out that she had a big ow. He started to say "Grandma big Ow""Poor Grandma" and "Grandma doctor". After 5 days of not seeing grandma he was really upset. Well turns out grandma was really upset too. She and my Father-in-law convinced the ICU nurses to allow their grandchildren to come in to see their grandma, they have 7 grandkids. The nurses agreed, but the kids had to come in just 2 at a time. My two of the seven are the youngest at 2ys and 8months. My husband and I took in our little ones and as soon as my son saw his grandma laying there with the oxygen tube and another tube going into her stomach, he said "Poor Grandma" She had tape on her nose to keep the tubes in place and he immediately thought she had an ow on her nose. He kissed her nose to make it better. We didn't stay long so that the other 5 could have their turn with grandma. My son was so happy to have seen grandma that was all he talked about.

Later that night he fell down and scrapped his knee, he cried and pointed to his ow, we cleaned it up and told him he was fine, life went on, or so we thought. Around 4:00 in the morning my son wakes up screaming. I ask him what is wrong and he points to his scrapped knee crying and mumbling and I was able to make out the words, "Big ow, doctor, Grandma big ow." He was scared that he had a big ow and was going to have to go to the doctor. I explained to him that he just had a very little ow and that he was fine and didn't have to go to the doctor. After that he calmed down and was able to go back to sleep. It amazed me after that to think how his little mind works, how he could put things together like that. I really didn't know just how smart 2 yr olds are until now.

Grandma is still in the hospital and he is still upset that he can't see her, but things are getting better for her everyday and my little man is getting smarter everyday.
